Auctioned Mansion Back on the Market!

The grand English mansion that was auctioned off last month is back on the market.  The woman who made the winning bid was working through an agent and never named.  She couldn’t come through on requirements for the contract so the owners have put the property back on the market.  The president of Grand Estates Auction, Stacy Kirk, said the rare offering had attracted people from as far away as China and Dubai.  The owners of the property John Hooper, 70, and his wife were hoping to travel the world once their property sold.  The mansion is located on the Ottawa River about 45 minutes from Montreal – and includes it’s own private beach!  There is over 17,000 square feet including 37 rooms, an indoor pool, 550′ of waterfront, an elevator, guest apartment and 5 acres of land.  This was one of the first absolute auctions of a luxury home in Canada and ended in disaster.  “For well-qualified potential purchasers, we’re going to invite them here for a weekend on their own,” Hooper said.  “We’ll show them how to work the house, and let them either fall in love or conclude it’s not the right pace for them.  I think that’s going to lead to a sale in the next six months or so, which is what we’re looking for.”  The mansion is currently listed at $3,410,000, the same price as the winning bid.
