c.1836 Georgia Mansion that Inspired ‘Gone With the Wind’ to be Auctioned, Opening Bid $1M

2176 Monticello Street SW, Covington, Georgia, United States, 30014

The detailled mansion that inspired the Twelve Oaks plantation home in the 1939 film adaptation of Gone With the Wind is about to be auctioned with an opening bid of just $1,000,000. A small price to pay for a piece of architectural history such as this. Mansion Global reported that the current owner, Nicole Munn, grew up admiring the columned mansion and despite the neglected state, she decided to purchase it in 2011 before embarking on a lengthly restoration that would go on to cost upwards of $2,000,000. It was built as a private home c.1836 and had been operating as a popular bed & breakfast in more recent years but was shut down in November 2018 to be used again as a private residence. It’s also a popular filming location with one or two movie or television contracts a year, including The Vampire Diaries. The 3.15 acre property is zoned to operate as a private home, a bed & breakfast, historic site or event venue, giving the new owner endless options for future growth. There are twelve bedrooms, twelve full and one half bathrooms, extensive porches, a new kitchen, hardwood flooring, chandeliers and period lighting, a formal parlour and comes fit with a fire sprinkler system. Online bidding begins with Target Auction on July 4th at 2:00 pm and will continue until a live auction on site will be held on July 25th and 2:00 pm.
