Fire Destroys Victorian Mansion, Kills 5 on Christmas Morning

Three children and two grandparents were killed in an early morning fire at a stately Victorian mansion in Stamford, Connecticut.  Property records show the home was owned by advertising executive, Madonna Badger, who managed to escape the house along with a family friend.  Badger purchased the Victorian mansion for $1.7 million last year and was actively having work done on it.  Her three daughters – a 10 year old and 7 year old twins, as well as her parents, who were visiting for the holiday, died.  Neighbours were awaken by Badgers screams for help but could do nothing as flames consumed the home.  Ms. Badger’s parents, Lomer & Pauline Johnson, were to celebrate their 49th anniversary on Monday.  Mr. Johnson, 71, spent his last day working his dream job: as Santa Claus on the ninth floor of the Saks Fifth Avenue flagship store in Manhattan.  The building has since been demolished.
