Historic c.1888 Richardsonian Romanesque Mansion Lists in Chicago, IL for $21.9M

915 N Dearborn Street, Chicago, Illinois, United States, 60610

A towering Richardsonian Romanesque mansion on Chicago’s Dearborn Street just steps from Washington Square Park has hit the market for $21,900,000. The historic sandstone mansion is the second most expensive residential property in the entire state of Illinois right behind Lincoln Park’s enormous 25,000 square foot mansion which is listed for $50,000,000. It was designed c.1888 by architectural firm Cobb and Frost for attorney John H. Thompson. The Chicago Tribune reveals that the property last sold in 2009 for $3,128,000 to Pete’s Fresh Market co-founder and owner, James “Jimmy” Dremonas, who invested more than $7,000,000 revitalizing it. Listing agent Tatiana Miller had told the Chicago Tribune earlier this year that the house was totally run-down and needed substantial work. Everything inside was gutted and all exteriors were restored over a period of eight years. The home spans more than 13,400 square feet with 6 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, custom millwork, silk wall coverings and mahogany hardwood flooring. There is also a carriage house on the property that appears to have been in use until at least April of 2009. Strangely, access to the carriage door was permanently blocked during the renovations. It’s on the market for $21,900,000 with Coldwell Banker.
