Located outside Kansas City, Kansas, a sprawling 15 acre estate complete with a complex network of underground, water-filled tunnels designed for scuba diving, is pending sale after dropping to $2.55 million. The one-of-a-kind property first hit the market in 2019 for $11.8 million and relisted in July 2020 for $10.9 million. Mansion Global reported in 2019 that the unique feature was the brainchild of the owner’s late husband, a scuba enthusiast. Lynn Shaw, the owner, told Mansion Global, the tunnels began with a small seed of an idea about scuba diving in an outdoor pond, and then evolved. “It took on a life of its own,” she said. The backyard paradise includes a 35-foot-tall waterfall crashing into the 30-foot-deep pool, a grotto with indoor pool, sauna, entertaining space and faux fossils throughout. It’s estimated that the estate cost as much as $30 million to build. The nearly 15 acre estate also includes a 17,755 square foot main house called the Spirit of Avalon. Mansion Global also noted, “Ms. Shaw’s husband, Dennis Langley, who worked in the natural gas business, died unexpectedly more than two years ago, she said. She is now downsizing to a smaller property.” The Spirit of Avalon is pending sale and on the market for $2.55 million with Katie Casey of Crown Realty.
