Welcome to Dearfield, an enchanting historic home in Greenwich’s storied Khakum Wood. The peaceful community of Khakum Wood — inspired by esteemed architect I.N. Phelps Stokes and embraced by the landscaping of the influential Olmsted Brothers — is home to many stately residences, among which this captivating 1929 stone Georgian Colonial stands in perfect harmony. The 8,400 square foot stone home underwent expansion and complete renovation in 2018 with noted architect Louise Brooks. From the listing: “A majestic, oak-floored reception hall welcomes your family and guests alike, while beyond lie rooms ideal for entertaining: formal living room and terrace, cozy and authentic English-style library with floor-to-ceiling shelving, a bar inspired by the designs of Christopher Peacock, and a formal dining room with a Delft tile fireplace and French doors leading to a tranquil terrace. The roomy kitchen would thrill any chef with extensive custom cabinetry, large island, soapstone and marble counter-tops, premier appliances and a butler’s pantry. Evenings with family are comfortably accommodated in the entertainment room featuring a fireplace, bay window and a terrace.”
“Steps away is a warm breakfast nook designed for quiet, casual meals. Relaxation for both the young and young-at-heart is encouraged in the mirrored fitness room with full bath. Upstairs, light-filled serenity pervades the master suite, which includes a bedroom with lofty tray ceiling, dual walk-in closets with dressing rooms, and a luscious bathroom with soaking tub. Each of the four additional bedroom suites absorbs enchanting views of verdant treetops and colorful gardens. A mudroom, laundry rooms on the first and second levels, and a heated three-car garage complete this work of art.” Annual property taxes are estimated at $57,612. The 2.48 acre property hit the market in 2019 for $8.8 million and is currently available for $7.25 million with Leslie McElwreath of Sotheby’s International Realty.
