It’s been 7 years since one of Lake Tahoe’s most extravagant custom homes sold. The 27,000 square foot mansion, known as Tranquility, was built in 2000 by Tommy Hilfiger co-founder Joel Horowitz on a substantial 210 acre estate. No expense was spared in the creation of this one-of-a-kind residence. The main staircase is modelled after the grand staircase from the Titanic. The architects were flown to Ireland to examine the Titanic’s original blueprints and replicate specific details. All the wood is Mahogany and hand-carved with wrought iron detailing matching the railings on the ship. The staircase is topped with a substantial glass & wrought iron dome. There is also a cigar lounge modelled after New York’s famed St. Regis Hotel, a two-storey library, indoor pool and elegant theatre. The mansion listed for $100 million and eventually sold in 2013 for $48 million.
