Arts and Crafts Dream Home in Portland Heights Drastically Altered
We were over the moon excited to find yet another Randy Chandler built masterpiece in Oregon’s historic Portland Heights neighbourhood. It was designed by GSB Design and built by Randy Chandler on the foundation of an early 1900s tear down, however, you’d never know this home was actually new construction! The interiors are filled with charm incorporating rich woods and built-ins appropriate to the period. Quality and detail such as this is rarely seen in newer construction. A great room with eleven foot ceilings connects a barrel vaulted dining room with a gorgeous eat-in kitchen while twenty-seven custom stained glass windows and matching shades for period light fixtures set the tone throughout. We set out to find more information and possibly more photos of the property, this is when our excitement quickly dwindled. It was built in 2009 and had sold a handful of times between 2011 – 2016. Somewhere along the way all that rich woodwork had been painted white and select light fixtures were replaced or removed entirely. The detail and work that went into this new construction only to be painted white a few years later is mind-blowing. There is a little over 6,000 square feet with five bedrooms, four full and one half bathroom on a 0.23 acre property. There is also a private guest suite with kitchen, bathroom and separate entrance. It had been on the market as much as $3,850,000 and is recorded as last selling in 2016 for $2,600,000.
