Have you ever wondered where the creator of Microsoft lives? Bill Gates’ private estate is in the Bellevue area of Washington State and built into the side of a hill overlooking Lake Washington. Nicknamed Xanadu 2.0, the 66,000 square foot residence was designed and built by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Cutler Anderson Architects over a span of 7 years. It’s rumoured to have cost $63 million to build, and in 2009 the total assessed value was $147.5 million, bringing the taxes that year to $1.063 million. The architect’s website notes that it integrates environmental sensitivity with an elaborate program and advanced computer technology.
The estate offers a variety of one-of-a-kind spaces including a sun-drenched 60′ indoor swimming pool, a 2,500 square foot gym, 1,000 square foot dining room, and heated flooring & driveways. Puget Sound Business Journal reported that each year Microsoft holds a charity auction with goods and services donated by Microsoft employees.
