Designed by Boulder, Colorado’s BVZ Architects and inspired by Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina, this four-storey Texas limestone mansion is on the market for $11.99 million. Château V was built over a decade for Randall and Cynthia Veselka who ultimately decided to list the mansion for $17.5 million just a year after completion. At 21,000 square feet, Chateau V is a fraction of the size of Biltmore, which extends 178,926 square feet, but is the largest residential undertaking in Evergreen, Colorado and if sold it will also be one of the most expensive. A community of craftsmen have worked closely with the homeowners and the architect to ensure that each piece of stone, stained and diamond cut glass, wrought iron and the 126 chandeliers were all individually created to suit the Castle’s design.

A porte-cochere gives passageway to a balanced facade with two projecting wings that connect to the entrance tower. The marbled entrance hall provides one of many entries to an open loggia. Marble flooring, utilized throughout the home, reflects the sunlight to create a soothing naturally lit interior. To the right of the entry is the amazing great room with immense glass wall full of mountain vistas, custom limestone fireplace and unique spoked ceiling detail. The great room opens to the kitchen which utilizes the self-supporting ceramic tile vault and arch system patented by Spanish architect Rafael Guastavino in 1892. To the left of the entrance hall is the two-storey library with walnut flooring and a surrounding upper floor balcony.

The staircases on opposing ends of the mansion are dramatic features with limestone steps, winding balustrade, curly wrought-iron insets and multifaceted glass. The upper floor living hall is an extension of the grand staircases as a formal hall and gallery. On the opposite ends of the house the architect has placed the twin two-car garages. The primary master suite with decks, living room, limestone fireplace and luxury bath with coffee bar, refrigerator, automated blinds and safe room is located on the main level. Upstairs is the guest apartment with full kitchen and windows to an ancient rock outcropping. Four additional bedroom suites are located on upper and walk-out levels. Intentionally unfinished, the bottom level allows customization. The famed Biltmore Estate isn’t for sale but if you’re looking for something a little smaller with a similar exterior then you can call Chateau V home. The property is on the market for $11.99 million with Whitney Cain of Sotheby’s International Realty.
