An award-winning historic mansion in Philadelphia’s upscale neighbourhood of Chestnut Hill is on the market for $2,300,000. The 9,400 square foot stone mansion, nicknamed Efnemheim after the original owner’s daughters, was built by Walter H. Thomas in 1917 and sits on a lush 1.58 acre property. Elegant in every sense of the word, the home comes panelled in linden and walnut wood and adorned with leaded glass, slate flooring, random-width hardwood flooring and a collection of stone fireplaces throughout. The main floor includes a sun-filled living room with windows on two sides, a spacious sunroom, formal dining room and a family room with bay windows looking into the yard. Rising three stories, the bedrooms levels are accessed in two ways, the large formal wood staircase in the elegant panelled foyer or a secondary staircase off the kitchen. There are a total of seven bedrooms, five full and one half bathrooms throughout, including three bedrooms on the third floor. There is a large entertaining patio at the rear of the mansion with extensive gardens and a large lawn.

Repaired slate roof by Frank Toscano of Cheltenham Roofing Co.

Frank Toscano of Cheltenham Roofing Co. and owners, John and Jolene Miller, received a 2018 Preservation Award for their dedication and work on the 103-year-old stone mansion following damage caused by a summer storm. A large tree fell on and damaged a large portion of the slate roof, copper gutters and a dormer. Cheltenham Roofing Co. sourced slate that would seamlessly match the size, colour and thickness of the existing roofing, a task that would take nearly a month of searching. Damaged valleys, gutters and hangers were all replaced with 16 oz copper. The property is on the market for $2,300,000 with Michael Sivel of Berkshire Hathaway
