West Hyannisport, Massachusetts, United States
Located just around the corner from the historic Kennedy compound and set on a sloped site overlooking the Nantucket Sound, this sprawling 12,500 square foot residence, known as the Captain’s House, was designed by architectural firm Morehouse MacDonald and Associates and built by C.H. Newton Builders, Inc. Interior designer Katie Rosenfeld is responsible for the home’s interiors. The shingle-style architecture is whimsical and highly detailed with an exceptional attention to detail. The rear side of the residence appears to have been nautically inspired with a substantial curving veranda, a pair of towering stone chimneys and stained wood handrails. There are four levels of living space with mahogany windows and walnut flooring. Morehouse MacDonald and Associates wrote about the project on their website, “A pool platform is strategically located a half flight down from the veranda level to create better connectivity to the main floor. This platform was also pulled away from the house to allow natural light to penetrate the basement level which contains adjoining spaces for family life such as the spa and television room. Flying stairs provide wide access to the pool level and help define a stone veneered exterior corridor beneath the basement periphery.” The project is also the winner of the 2015 Prism Awards “Silver Award” for Best House over 8,000 square feet.
