LDa Architecture & Interiors had the pleasure of designing & building a gorgeous new home for a young family in Weston, Massachusetts. The firm notes that the family wanted their new home to be more open, modern and expressive—a comfortable mix of livable, eclectic, and colorful, while still retaining elements of the family home they outgrew. The finished design is nothing short of spectacular. The decision was made to use rustic and old world materials in a refined and sophisticated way so that materials such as bronze, antiqued oak, and blue stone would be approachable but also unexpected. After much discussion between the architecture and interior design teams, as well as the client, it was decided that private rooms would be smaller, encouraging the family to congregate in the larger open spaces rather than retreating to private oversized suites. The main public living areas of the house would be light-filled and spacious. Accomplishing this required a cohesive, yet diverse selection of materials and styles. The two main stairways in the house were designed to flood the house with natural light, punctuating the sculptural quality of their construction. Large windows across the back of the house are a nod to the modern and a provide a direct connection to the New England landscape. The home was also featured in a multi-page spread in the November/December 2014 issue of New England Home.
