River Oaks, Houston, Texas, United States
A prominent corner that serves as one of the main entry points for residents enterting River Oaks has been beautifully transformed by Curtis & Windham Architects. The firm not only designed the spacious brick manor but also handled the landscape design which includes a lovely oval pool and adjacent pool house. Curtis & Windham Architects drew inspiration from some of the work of Chicago architect David Adler when designing this new custom residence. The sprawling brick mansion maintains a commanding presence on a 0.85 acre corner lot in Houston’s River Oaks neighbourhood with secondary wings oriented to the garden on the east. The overall scale of the residence fits in seamlessly to the adjoining neighbourhood primarily filled with homes dating to the 1920s and 1930s. The interior design is elegant and sophisticated with a great balance of wood tones and architectural detail reminiscent of another era. A charming living room with commanding fireplace and walls of French doors is the perfect place to relax while the formal dining room, also with a fireplace, showcases a complex coffered ceiling. A tiled corridor with groin-vault ceiling and walls of French doors provides access to the dining room and leads to a private staircase. The grounds are lush with ample entertaining space and come complete with a large oval pool and jacuzzi as well as a pool house.
