Classic New England Shingle Style Residence by Charles Hilton Architects
Riverside, Connecticut, United States
A terrific scenic cove along the Long Island Sound in Riverside, Connecticut is what first sparked the homeowner’s interest. The owners commissioned Charles Hilton Architects to design a substantial, shingle style family home with traditional New England charm to compliment the waterfront site. The interiors continue with the traditional New England charm featuring extensive wainscotting, beamed and decorative ceilings in many of the formal rooms and a spectacular grand staircase with three types of alternating custom balusters, fluted corner posts and deeply carved newels. Designed to take advantage of the waterfront site, the kitchen, family, living and dining rooms all open to the water views and are within easy reach to the screened porch, the pergola-covered porch and the swimming pool. Upstairs you’ll find the master suite with private study, four family bedroom suites and an additional suite above the garage. The project garnered seven awards ranging from Best Exterior Home Feature and Best Kitchen Over $200,000 to Best Bathroom Over $100,000 and Best Custom Home 12,000 – 14,000 square feet. It has also been published in several magazines, including Ocean Home Magazine and New England Home Magazine.
