If you’re from Illinois or at all interested in architecture then you might be familiar with the name Dave Knecht. Knecht operates Hinsdale-based Dave Knecht Homes and has been involved in the construction of over 350 finely crafted homes as well as historical renovations and additions in Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan and Wisconsin. Not only was this 6,300 square foot Hinsdale home built by Dave Knecht, it also served as his personal residence, a place where he entertained and raised a busy family. Knecht built the residence in 2006 and after two years of trying to find a buyer, appears to have stayed put for nearly a decade. It eventually sold in June of 2017 for $3,800,000. With architecture reminiscent of a bygone era and a classically-designed interior with wainscoting, millwork, five fireplaces and custom hardware and fixtures, the residence showcases a custom kitchen with two islands, a sun-filled breakfast room, formal rooms with built-ins, wood panelled great room with French doors, a panelled den and a round sun room overlooking the southern side of the property. There are a total of five bedrooms and five bathrooms. Additional features include two staircases, a Chicago-style pub, home theatre, exercise room and sprawling green space with mature gardens. The property sold in 2017 for $3,800,000. Select photography by Karen Knecht Photography.
