It’s been nearly four years since Dean Gardens sold to entertainer Tyler Perry for the bargain price of just $7.6 million. At the time of the sale it was known that Perry had plans to raze the mansion, however what he planned to do with it has changed drastically in the years following. It was first reported that Tyler planned to keep the extensive formal gardens while tearing down the main house to make way for a new home more to his taste. Instead earlier this year it was released that Lennar Homes was seeking approval to develop the 58-acre estate into a 70-home subdivision, which appears to have been approved. Demolition is well underway at what was formerly known as Dean Gardens.
Over the past couple of weeks several of the grand-scale outbuildings have been taken down including the conservatory. Several of the statues were seen being removed by a large crane, and the large Neptune Fountain at the center of the formal gardens appears to have been demolished. The Italian Pavilion at the end of the formal gardens will likely be next as it’s reported there are dumpsters & equipment in the parking lot next to it.
