Creating your very own rock cactus garden is easier than you might think! I saw the idea floating around on Facebook and thought I’d give it a try one night. First what you’ll need to do is head to your local gardening shop to pick out some large & small oval shaped river rocks. I used an assortment of each in the three gardens I created – but it’s entirely up to you! While you’re at the garden shop you can also pick up some pea gravel to fill the pots, I found pea gravel to look the best but you can also use dirt or sand. I purchased my pots, which range in size, from the local dollar store for about $1.25 each. Now you can get started!
I used an assortment of bright and dark coloured paints from Michaels craft store but any paints you have lying around should work. The cactus can be painted a solid green or if you’re feeling adventurous you can mix the paints and create a one-of-a-kind look! Once you’re finished painting the green you can add extra detail with white paint to create lines and prickles. Once you’ve let everything dry you can fit your cactus into place in the pots and you’re done! To change things up you can also use a hot glue gun to attach rocks to one another as seen in the bottom cactus garden. It’s a lot of fun to create these gardens and it’s an activity you can enjoy with your kids as well. They make a great addition to the patio, garden, or even at your front door!
