Historic 1906 Bernard Maybeck-Designed ‘Rees House’ Asks $6.25M in Berkeley, California

$6,250,000 | 1906 | 4,345 Sq. Ft. | 5 Beds | 4.5 Baths | 0.24 Acres

1705 LA Loma Ave, Berkeley, CA 94709

Magical views from this rare Berkeley masterpiece, the historic Rees House beautifully blends iconic architect Bernard Maybeck’s interpretation of a Swiss Chalet with modern luxury. Built in 1906 and honored with a 1991 BAHA Restoration and Renovation Award, the home features exquisite craftsmanship, dramatic balconies, generous eaves, a gabled roof, and panoramic Bay views. The private third-floor primary retreat includes a lounge, dressing room, renovated bath, balcony, and breathtaking views. Four additional bedrooms with lovely views are arranged for flexible use on the second level. Spectacular tiered gardens offer entertaining terraces, a koi pond, hot tub, and fruit orchard. A striking two-story detached studio or guest house strikes a distinctly modern tone that complements the main house. Privately set on a large lot near UC Berkeley, with garage and off-street parking for several cars, this property is a true Berkeley treasure. HOME ENERGY SCORE 1.
