2Historic Virginia Home Auction

677 Crosshills Road, Wicomico Church, Virginia, United States

Constructed circa 1790 by William Blackersby, the main house is a brick Georgian manor constructed in flemish bond from locally-made brick.  The brick has been surveyed and restored as needed by Don Peel, a restoration brick expert trained in England.

The roof is non-fading slate and is approximately 10 years old with a 100-year life.  All 11 fireplaces are lined and fully functional.  The two porches are roofed in copper.  All windows and glass doors have been thermopaned using a method that allowed the retention of the original wood sash.

The main residence, guest house and accessory buildings sit on the 12+/- acre estate property, while the 20+/- acres across the road designated as a Virginia Byway consist of a picturesque meadow, woods and a stream.  Watching or hunting wildlife is a joy, as the woods and meadow are home to many deer, wild turkeys and other animals.

The rear of the main house looks onto magnificent formal gardens.  Designed by George McClellan of Gloucester, the gardens flank the sides of the raised terrace, which is at the start of the crepe myrtle allee leading to a reflecting pond with fountain.  The two formal gardens are mirror images of each other done in different color ways to complement the colors of the rooms from which they are visible.

Selling fully-furnished, the property will convey with all antiques, rugs, appliances, linen, china, and cook ware in both houses. The contents of the barn (including the tractor), the garden shed (including the antique gardening tools), and the outbuilding convey, as well as the antique hay kicker. The new owners need only bring themselves and their dreams for West End’s next chapter.  This historic home in Virginia is listed with Long & Foster Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Traditions.  Auction by Concierge Auctions.
