A quick look at McAlpine House’s website and you’ll be wanting to hire this firm to design your dream home! With offices across the country in New York, Atlanta, Nashville and Montgomery, the firm has worked on countless one-of-a-kind projects, but this 40 acre retreat in Napa Valley was their first commission in California. Architectural Digest ran an article profiling the home, the owners and the team that designed it. McAlpine House spent five years planning the project and 18 months bringing it to life for owners Don and Rela Gleason, cofounders of furniture company Summer Hill. Rela was also responsible for the home’s interior design. The nearly 9,000 square foot residence sits on an impressive 40 acre property surrounded by thousands of acres of preserved Land Trust. McAlpine House designed the residence in three pavilions connected by covered breezeways. The first pavilion includes a living/dining room, salon, chef’s kitchen and lounge, library as well as a master suite and guest suites. The second pavilion showcases a gym, media room, office/studio and wine cellar while the third pavilion includes the garages. There are two guest houses on the property, a secluded pool and acres of beautiful landscape. The property first hit the market in 2016 for $21,500,000 and was later relisted in 2018 for $17,000,000. It’s currently off the market.
