Inside Bowood House, An 18th Century English Country House with Capability Brown Landscape
Wiltshire, England
It’s been called ‘One of the best stately homes in Wiltshire’, Bowood House is an enormous Georgian country house with interiors by Robert Adam and a substantial garden designed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown. Adjacent to the village of Derry Hill, halfway between Calne and Chippenham in Wiltshire, Bowood has been home to the Lansdowne family since 1754. Hosting a wealth of unique art and antiques, guests can explore the family Library and Chapel, the room where Joseph Priestley discovered Oxygen in 1774, the Sculpture Gallery, the Orangery and a range of exhibition rooms. Bowood House is normally open to the public but is currently closed due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. Nearly 300 years of amazing artifacts and antiques from the family history are on display. The estate is also available for private hire & events and serves as a unique location for films and photo shoots. Photography by Simon Upton.
