Corporate housing tycoon Howard Ruby and wife, actress Yvette Mimieux Ruby, have listed their Italianate estate in Bel Air, California for $45 million. First time for sale in almost a generation, “Il Sogno” dates to 1928 and has been owned by Howard since 1979, according to The Wall Street Journal, which first reported on the listing. One of the great “true” Bel Air estates, the 0.96 acre property includes a grand classic villa featuring high beamed hand painted ceilings, plaster walls, stone carved fireplaces, and an array of incredible world-class details. Grand rooms with beautiful scale overlooking spectacular views and gardens throughout the estate. The interiors were designed by Kalef Alaton, one of the 20 greatest designers of all time according to Architectural Digest, using artisans and craftsman from the Amalfi coast to create an authentic Italian villa.

Situated on an acre of stunning grounds on one of Bel Air’s finest streets. The home features approximately 12,000 square feet of living space, including a stunning living room with hand painted beamed ceilings, a ballroom-sized party room, formal dining, a hand lacquered library, a luxurious master suite with dual baths and walk-in closets, an intimate wine cellar, and gourmet kitchen with commercial appliances. The gardens which include a sparkling tiled swimming pool, fountains, enormous lawns, formal gardens and specimen trees were designed by David Jones, the personal florist of Nancy Reagan, Jackie Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor. Situated behind iron gates and completely private, this is an incredible opportunity to acquire a trophy estate. Il Sogno is on the market for $45 million with Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency.
