The endangered historic Jim West Mansion has been given another chance at life. KHOU Houston reported that former professional basketball player Hakeem Olajuwon will be introducing his “Dream Collection” clothing and apparel store in the historic West Mansion.  The 17,000 square foot residence was designed by Joseph Finger and built for James Marion West, Sr. in the 1920’s.  Hakeem purchased the former summer home many years ago.

It took 3 years to complete at a cost of $250,000 and originally included 6 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a solarium, mahogany paneled study, ballroom, two-storey living room, and a private barbers room.  KHOU Houston also reports that there is talk of other commercial structures going up on the property including a restaurant and spa.  The property had sat abandoned for many years, but has been totally renovated.  KHOU Houston says, “Right now shopping inside the mansion is by appointment only, but it will be open to the public at the end of this month.”
