American rock legend Jon Bon Jovi has relisted his 15 acre New Jersey estate for $20 million. The founder and frontman of the Grammy Award-winning rock band Bon Jovi, commissioned architect Robert A.M. Stern to design the 18,000 square foot French-inspired chateau in 1999. Set on 15 acres within an hour’s drive to New York City, the vast property includes 750 feet of river frontage with four outbuildings including a three-bedroom carriage house, a building known as the “Shoe Inn” Pub with imported bar from France and original stables which now house a loft-style recording studio. Masterfully designed and exceptionally built, the home showcases brick courtyards, French balconies, tall and wide mullioned windows, historic and wrought iron ornate accents, arched alcove windows, tall chimneys and copper gutters. Enter the main house through solid wood double doors and vestibule to an open two-storey foyer with limestone flooring, exquisite architectural details and a custom circular staircase detailed with a hand-forged wrought iron banister.
The interior was masterly painted by internationally acclaimed Pierre Finkelstein and features large formal rooms including a fifty-foot living room with twelve-foot ceilings, a grand staircase and parquet flooring. The kitchen features a handcrafted brick barrelled ceiling with hand-painted beams, wide-planked wood floors and honed alabaster countertops while an adjacent breakfast room captures river views. A warm and calming family room with beamed ceilings, built-ins, wood planked floors and a fireplace that doubles as an outdoor fireplace with a pergola and seating area to view the sailboats on the river as they pass by. The second floor consists of two wings; the family wing and the guest or staff quarters. The family wing consists of four en-suite bedrooms, including the master suite. The master suite has a balcony with panoramic views overlooking the river, a master bath with a curved steam shower and a free standing soaking tub overlooking the river with alabaster and marble accents. Additional features include an elevator serving all floors, heated outdoor pool with two cedar bath cabanas and a custom designed home theatre. Jon Bon Jovi gave CBS a tour of the property during a “Person to Person” segment in 2012. See the video below. The 15 acre property is known as High Point Estate and on the market for $20 million with Gloria Nilson of Berkshire Hathaway.
