Landmark 56,000 Sq. Ft. Spelling Manor Asks $155M in Los Angeles, California

One of the most widely known estate properties in Los Angeles’ super posh Holmby Hills is making headlines after hitting the market for $155 million in Los Angeles, California. The 4.6 acre estate last sold in 2019 for a then record-setting $119.75 million. At the time it was the highest recorded sale ever in the state of California and while the buyer’s identity has been kept under wraps, they became the third owner. The 4.6 acre estate was previously listed as much as $200 million after selling 8 years ago in 2011 for $85 million. “The Manor,” was the dream of the late TV producer Aaron Spelling – whose wife, Candy Spelling, had it listed for a number of years at a firm $150 million. Spelling accepted an offer of $85 million in 2011 from British heiress Petra Ecclestone. The Manor spans 56,000 square feet with 14 bedrooms and 16.5+ bathrooms and is said to have an additional 17,000 square feet of attic space. One of the home’s most iconic features is the double staircase inspired by the one featured in the film Gone with the Wind.  ‘When I saw Scarlett (O’Hara) coming down those stairs that is what I wanted,’ said Spelling’s widow Candy.

A lot has changed since Petra purchased the property, a substantial total renovation has transformed what was once an elegant French-inspired Château into a gleaming modernized manor suited for 21st-century living. Forbes reported that Ecclestone spent upwards of $20 million and several years renovating the residence. Renovations include a grand formal living room, projection room, bar, family room, library, office, service wing, billiards room, game room, two lane bowling alley, wine cellar and tasting room, catering kitchen, gym and a fully equipped beauty salon including masseuse and tanning rooms. Petra sold the estate in 2011 for $119.75 million. The magnificent home is perched atop approximately 4.6 acres of exquisitely landscaped land in prestigious Holmby Hills. It is said to be the largest and grandest private residence in Los Angeles. It was designed in 1988 by architects James Langenheim & Associates.
