Landmark Robert A.M. Stern-Designed Baron Estate Transformed After Selling in 2018

Preston Hollow, Dallas, Texas

The Baron Estate — The former Dallas, Texas estate of the late American trial lawyer, Fred Baron, and wife, Lisa Baron, has been drastically transformed after selling in 2018 for just under $19 million. Designed by renowned architect Robert A.M. Stern and built in the mid-1990s, the classically-inspired brick residence was organized around a series of exterior courtyards opening up to formal gardens. According to CandysDirt.com, the Barons would frequently loan the house and property out for charitable events, as well as hosting President Obama, President Clinton, and other national and local Democratic candidates. The former listing described the property as the “finest pied-a-terre of legendary architect Robert A.M. Stern and constructed by John Sebastian” with “a lake, several terraces, gardens, tennis court, pool, and two-story guest house.” The listing went on to reveal, “The three-story main house embodies perfection with its natatorium, spa, library, leather-walled billiard room, master suite complex and so much more.” The 9 acre estate first hit the market in May of 2014 for $37.5 million and by February of 2017 had dropped to $24.5 million. CandysDirt.com revealed in August of 2018 that the property had sold and closed for just under $19 million.

As early as late-2022, both Google & Apple imagery show the estate under construction, visibly transforming both the structure and the property itself. While it’s unknown what changes have been made to the interior, the streetview & aerial imagery reveal the brick exterior covered up and large glass additions to each section of the structure. Most of the landscape has been ripped up and one of the largest residential swimming pools we’ve ever seen is under construction on a section of the estate just west of the main house.

Fred Baron was one of the founders of Baron & Budd, P.C., a Dallas, Texas law firm and a former president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He was best known for representing plaintiffs claiming toxic and chemical exposure. Baron sold his interest in Baron & Budd and retired from the firm in December 2002. Baron died of cancer in Dallas on October 30, 2008. Lisa Blue Baron, also an American trial lawyer and previously a psychologist, started her own firm, Baron and Blue, and was elected President of the American Association for Justice in 2014. Lisa is also a philanthropist through the Baron and Blue Foundation.
