Once $26.5 Million – Now Flooded
Once listed at $26.5 Million, Villa Taj, a mansion located in the town of Burr Ridge, Illinois was the dream of Husam Aldairi who spared no expense building the 30,000 square foot residence. Construction on the mansion lasted nearly four years and by the time it was finished the family decided to that they would rather move to a warmer climate. The Estate went on the market for $26.5 Million but found no buyer. Federal Auctions & Brokerage have taken over the listing and the last public price was $13 Million.
On March 5, 2011 an agent with the brokerage arrived at the vacant Mansion with a potential buyer and discovered it filled with water. The water could have been running for as long as three weeks before it was found. An estimated 6 million gallons of water flowed throughout the home which featured treasures brought in from all over the world including stairs made of Brazilian Cherrywood, $2 Million worth of Gold Limestone from Israel and an Italian Tile Floor installed at $180 per square foot. “There is all kinds of damage. There was water everywhere,” Burr Ridge Development Director Doug Pollock said. Pollock said permits will be required before any work can be done inside the uninhabitable home. “I expect at least half the house will have to be gutted and replaced,” Pollock said. “It’s sad. It’s really sad.”
