Mansion Under Construction Goes Up in Flames on Lake Minnetonka

A large mansion under construction on Lake Minnetonka went up in flames Wednesday evening according to the Star TribuneRecords reveal the property last sold in 2017 for $6 million and previously contained a 12,674 square foot home that was built in 1998. The new owners commissioned architectural firm Murphy & Co. and builders John Kraemer & Sons to design and build the new home in its place. Wayzata Fire Chief Kevin Klapprich told the Star Tribune that the lack of hydrants in the area required the department to haul in tankers of water. The house was vacant and no firefighters were reported as being injured. Renderings below depict what the house was to look like when finished. Murphy & Co: “Set on the shores of a picturesque Minnesota lake, this modern home maximizes the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Large bi-folding doors allow the home to open up to the lakeside terraces and enjoy the sweeping views. Stone walls flanking the motor court give the house a sense of gravity and serve to obscure the lake view until one enters the foyer. The large expanses of glass and use of naturally finished cedar timbers and trim give the house a warm coastal vibe. On the lakeside, the house, garage, and pool house create a courtyard that shelters the infinity edge pool from the adjacent properties and elevate it to provide spectacular views of the lake.”
