Racist Sellers Charged – $1,799,900

This Bridgeport Mansion is in a prime location just two blocks from the US Cellular Park where the Chicago White Sox play.  If you aren’t into sports the home has other items that may interest you, such as the 1,200 Sq. Ft. Master Suite, Home Theatre, Multi Car Garage or the fact that there are three Bars and two Kitchens!  Overall the house is 8,000 Sq. Ft., was built in 2006 and includes Five Bedrooms, Four full Bathrooms and Two Powder rooms.  The Exterior of the home is finished in Limestone and Brick Work and is fitted with the best triple pane Pella Windows.  Listed at only $1.79 Million it seems you’re getting a decent deal, it may not be the best of the best but it’s a good deal…but would you be able to buy a house from Racist Seller?  Not me.

Upon further investigation I found that the people trying to sell this home are now facing “Federal Discrimination Charges!”  Why?  The home had been listed for two years with no offers until radio personality George Willborn and his wife, businesswoman Peytyn Willborn made a $1.7 Million Dollar offer – which just happened to be the highest offer recieved.  The offer was accepted and the final procedures to close the sale were underway until the sellers refused to sign.

“HUD said that in an interview with an investigator, the real estate agent for the property, Jeffrey Lowe of Lowe Group Chicago Inc., said Daniel Sabbia told him he would rather not sell to an African-American.”

The couple then took the home off the market–claiming they could not find a suitable new home and wanted to keep their children in the same schools.  But, after Willborn filed a complaint, the deal was apparently back on.

After the Willborns filed a complaint with HUD, Lowe contacted them and offered to sell the home, with all its furniture, for $1.799 million, the complaint alleges.  And two months later in March 2010, the home was re-listed at that price.  The complaint, which alleges violations of the Fair Housing Act, will lead to a hearing before an administrative law judge, according to the Sun-Times.  It could be moved to a federal court if any person involved wants it to be. The Sabbias could be fined up to $16,000 and a judge could also award punitive damages.  The Huffington Post
