Scott McNealy, American businessman and co-founder of computer technology company Sun Microsystems, has reduced his amenity-packed California estate to $53.8 million. It was previously on the market in 2018 for nearly $100 million. The tech billionaire built the estate in the hills of Palo Alto with his wife, Susan, in 2008 with the help of architect Thomas Jakway. The 32,000 square foot residence is built into the landscape and enjoys 360-degree mountain and valley views from floor-to-ceiling windows and spacious balconies. There are five bedrooms, seven full and four half baths with a detached one-bedroom guest house for overnight guests. The property comes packed with amenities! Golf course architect, Jay Blase of Chambers Bay fame, designed a 110 yard practice facility with two green, three traps, multiple tee areas and views that rival many golf courses. McNealy’s son, Maverick, is a professional golfer. There is also a private, club-like area that includes billiards, poker rooms, an elaborate movie theatre and dance floor. Perhaps the most interesting area of the property is the 7,300 square foot facility which houses the home’s private hockey rink! As per the listing, this space can be used to host a car collection, continue use for hockey, tennis, horses, gymnastics or an art studio. Extensive advanced security features throughout the property include a safe room, panic buttons, door and window security, privacy gate and hilltop seclusion. There is also fiber to the home with gigabit network speeds. The couple lived in the home for more than a decade and now that they are empty nesters, have decided it’s time to sell. This unique estate is on the market for $53.8 million with Samira Amid-Hozour of Compass.
