245 N Saltair Avenue, Los Angeles, California, United States, 90049
For the first time ever the iconic home of Blanche, Rose, Dorothy, and Sophia is available to purchase for $3 million. The nearly 3,000 square foot, 4 bedroom home is located in the Brentwood neighbourhood of Los Angeles and was used solely for exterior shots for the hit show “Golden Girls” which ran from 1985 to 1992. Designed by award-winning Hawaiian architects Johnson and Perkins and built in 1955, the home was owned by David Noble Barry III and Margaret Carr Barry. The couple lived in the home until their deaths in 2017 and 2019 and the residence is currently being sold by a trust. Golden Girls filmed on location for exterior shots only for the first season and for subsequent seasons, the couple loaned NBC the home’s blueprints and a replica was built on Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Modelled after Barry III’s father’s Honolulu home, Japanese and Hawaiian influences are abundant throughout the Brentwood estate and feature Shoji screens, built-in cabinetry, floor-to-ceiling windows and traditional Japanese wood flooring that surround the residence. The home also contains the original kitchen, featuring yellow accents, Formica countertops and avocado cabinets according to Realtor. The home’s listing agent, Rachelle Rosten, predicts that the home will sell upwards of $1 million over asking. It’s on the market for $3 million with Rachelle Rosten of Douglas Elliman.
