An architecturally significant Queen Anne Victorian is back on the market in Palo Alto’s Crescent Park neighbourhood following a total home upgrade and renovation. The current owners purchased the 124-year-old residence in 2017 for $4.1 million. Michael Repka, the home’s listing agent, told Realtor, “It was pretty rough. There were a lot of problems with the foundation. In addition to the aesthetics she fixed, they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the foundation.” It was designed by architect C.H. Barrett and built by M.P. Madison in 1896 for Mrs. A.G. Herzinger at a cost of $6,500. Herzinger occupied the residence until about 1907. According to Past Heritage, previous residents include Ernest R., Angie Smith, Clifton H. Woodhams and Robert and Vivian Blomenkamp. Architecturally speaking, the 4,516 square foot home looks nearly identical today as the day it was built. The chimneys have been altered slightly and a prominent tower on the right is missing its third floor balcony topped with a round bell roof. Despite these changes, the home still maintains a level of charm that is rarely seen today. A wraparound porch opens to the main entrance hall with pocket doors separating formal dining and living rooms. There is also new gourmet kitchen with island, built-in seating for booth-style dining and access to the backyard. Up the grand staircase with embossed wall coverings and original wood banister you’ll find the elegant master suite featuring a turret, walk-in closet and updated ensuite bathroom. There are a total of 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. The attic level has been converted into a bonus suite with kitchen, bar, bathroom and sitting area. The agency that has the listing also produced a unique video tour featuring themselves in period attire! This unique Queen Anne Victorian is on the market for $5.5 million with Deleon Realty.
