Charlotte County, Virginia, United States

Published in June of 1902 is the Roanoke Plantation in Charlotte County, Virginia.  The expansive 1,224 acre offering was listed at just $29,000.  An inflation calculator suggests that $29,000 in 1902 would cost approximately $757,000 in 2012.  Still a bargain.  After a quick Google search no recent information could be found on the status of the property.  If you know anything please leave a comment.  The listing description reads, “1224 acres in Charlotte County, VA., within one mile of station.  Roanoke is not only celebrated as the home of John Randolph, but for the great fertility of its soil and fine climate.  There are 325 acres of finest Staunton River low grounds, producing great crops of hay and grain.  The Residence, semi-colonial style of architecture, is new, handsome and complete – 14 large rooms, modern improvements, situated in ten-acre lawn shaded by original forest trees.  Price; $29,000.”
