Winnetka, Illinois, United States
Morgante Wilson Architects strategically positioned this new shingle style residence in Winnetka to benefit from the mature landscape already in place on the site. Mature trees dot the landscape on all sides of the home, not only providing privacy, but also creating shade for the extensive stone patios. The firm was commissioned to design the home from top-to-bottom, creating a cottage-like design showcasing playful elements both inside and out. A breathtaking set of double stairs ascend to the second floor while a third staircase continues to the top floor. Morgante Wilson Architects designed a small passthrough area below the staircase topped with a pergola. The main living rooms are flooded with natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors opening directly to the rear entertaining patio. An angled wing housing the kitchen includes a wall of cabinetry, large center island with storage and numerous windows looking to the rear yard. There is a formal dining room with connecting butler’s pantry featuring Mahogany cabinetry with custom leaded glass on the uppers, a beautiful shingled octagonal sunroom and a luxurious master suite with fireplace and spa-like bathroom with carrara marble. The residence also features a few hidden subterranean rooms such as a home theatre, indoor basketball court and a unique indoor pool & jacuzzi. Photography by Michael Robinson.
