A ten-bedroom mansion in need of restoration in Auburn, New York that made headlines in December 2019 for its eye-catching low price has secured a buyer. Property records show it last selling in 2013 for $155,000 and most recently hitting the market on December 2, 2019 for $50,000, with a catch. CNN reported that the city of Auburn had purchased the foreclosed property and the Planning Department worked with agent Michael DeRosa to come up with an unusual method of sale. Any interested parties would need put together a detailled package with their plans to restore the mansion and what their intended use would be. Christine McConnell, famed artist and star of Netflix’s The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, made a buzz when she posted a photo with listing agent Michael DeRosa in front of the mansion to her Instagram on December 13, 2019. Unfortunately, McConnell passed on the property, stating that it required a little too much work than what she had time for. According to New York Upstate, the City of Auburn reviewed 204 submissions for parties interested in purchasing and restoring the mansion. The winning buyers are Glenn James Joynt and Katherine Joynt (Klint), along with their 7 children, who reside in Doylesburg, PA. The family manage the Amish produce co-op Path Valley Farms according to New York Upstate. The Joynt family proposed an investment of at least $155,000 to restore the house. The Seymour Mansion was designed by architect John W. Venderbosch and built c.1861 for Auburn banker, James Sheldon Seymour. The house was later owned by Charles A. McCarthy, founder of Dunn and McCarthy Shoes. Inside this three-storey historic beauty, you’ll find nearly 6,000 square feet of living space, a stunning hand-crafted curved staircase, pocket doors, hardwood floors, four marble fireplaces, ten bedrooms, five bathrooms (three full, two half), beautiful original custom woodwork and built-in cabinetry. The home is situated on nearly 1 acre of land with a two-storey carriage house.
